Pornophonique and the “when it’s done”

Dear beloved UltraStar Deluxe players,

We have some good news for you, a German band which goes by the name Pornophonique sponsors one of their songs for your singing pleasure. Gameboy meets campfire, is how they describe their music - sounds like a warm night with friends so boring you have to play tetris on your gameboy - but actually it’s a quite unique melange of chiptunes and guitar with lyrics. So check their website at pornophonique.de and extend your collection of songs by downloading the tune Space Invaders from our website.

Back to UltraStar Deluxe itself and the upcoming 1.1 release, we know that some of you girls and guys are desperately waiting for the next release. So let me explain why it takes “so long”. It’s been almost exactly four months without something new, when we leave the themes and songs aside. Sounds longer than it actually is, no fronting here - but just keep in mind that we have jobs or study at a university like you do. USDX is a leisure time project, we work on the code when we find time to squeeze it in. When we do, then we want it to be perfect - we want it to be bugfree and every coder has his own set of features that he wants to see in the release.
Much of the work has already be done, the Linux build for instance has greatly improved thanks to the incredible work of Tobi (aka Henny) - Linux user may want to check the latest changes at our wiki. But there’s still a lot of work to do until we can release a new version without having collywobbles, which actually means it’ll take at least two or three more months.

So if you want the release asap, then just help us - patches, musicians or new coders are always welcome! Not to forget people who are willing to make CC licensed songs for UltraStar Deluxe :)

How is the Mac OS X version coming? Will it make it for the 1.1 release? Keep up the great work! ;)

  2. Hubert K Says:

Great Job ur project… who has made pornophonique and all the other songs for ustar? They have great quality!!!

    Hey,

fine to see that 1.1 will come (soon). That sounds good.
I think all people here can imagin that you have to do two jobs at the same time ;) And we do not want to change role ;))

I am sorry to say, that I have no skill to program or code such a software ;(

But I have to repeat my opinion:
You have the best platform system for the PC. Perhaps it is not so easy to use as Singstar on Playstation2/3 (e.g. Mic problems and creating new songs), but on the other hand it is the most variable software I know.

The actual trend shows that Karaoke will be used by all people more and more. –> Look at this here in Germany: Karcher Magic Sing ED-9000 Karaoke-System
    http://www.amazon.de/Karcher-Magic-Sing-ED-9000-Recordingfunktion/dp/B000I4FH0G
–> I think this one is too expensive but it shows that the people will buy it and this company earns money with it. So the demand for that is unbelievable. I see it at my friends: Everyone who sees UltraStar on my Computer want to have it !!!!

And I think you should also think about your possibilities to improve that software and to use more marketing instruments for UltraStar. You can challenge your system with those from the competitors..I am sure.

So perhaps start a camapign at online magazines for PC (chip.de pc-welt.de english magazines)..let them write articles about UltraStar and I am sure you find more people who help you.

    Regards
    Joerg

Hey Iñigo, I have some good news for you, it seems that the Mac port will come with the next release. Eddie, who takes care of the port, is pretty busy at the moment - but he assured me that it’s already working :)

Uhm, Hubert - the songs are made by awesome professionals :P Guess if they want their names to be known, they’ll speak up themselves. Just one thing, look out for songs labeled “[SC]” - you’ll notice that these are the best..
Greetings to you girls and guys, massive thanks - without your work, we would be nothing!

Now to Joerg, Karaoke is pretty popular indeed - but some people prefer a hardware solution - for instance if their wifes don’t allow them to put computers in the living room :P For the articles, some magazines already wrote articles about us - sometimes they even contact us in prior.

Okay that’s it, thanks for the comments - hope I delivered satisfying answers O.o

    Hi,

first of all: thank you for your great work, I really like your program!

Second, just a hint: as far as I can see, the webpage doesn’t have a link to the wiki yet (besides the blog entry announcing it) - maybe you should add one, since the wiki carries a lot of important information about creating your own USDX songs…

    Cheers,

    Jonas
